ISO 9001: Control Of Product And Service Provision

In this series of blog posts, I will be taking a look at the main sections of ISO 9001, what they are, why they are important ...

This 101 is looking into Section 8.5.1 Control of product and service provision. Why is this important to my business? Because we all want to deliver great products and services to our customers and in order to do this you need to control how you provide the products and services.

This will help to make sure you are not likely to have any issues such as the return of faulty products, or quibbles over the levels of service received. How do I do this?

You need to consider the following points:

Taking these points into account will help you control, your product or service provision.

You then need to document what you feel is needed to ensure that those delivering the product or service can do so efficiently and effectively. However, you do not need to write down every single detail in a work instruction if the person is competent to do the job. An overview or simple process map will be sufficient.

"How do I manage this?"

There are a variety of ways you can manage this. Personally, I use Teamwork to help me manage my service provision. I have template task lists for implementing ISO9001 and other standards to reduce the likelihood of missing anything out. I document my procedures in the notebooks or upload files, both of which are version controlled. There are a lot of options to suit whatever process you decide on.

Many of the companies I have worked with have found it useful to have an independent person to work with them to help understand the requirements and how to implement them.
