ISO 9001: Preservation Of Products And Services

In this series of blog posts, I will be taking a look at the main sections of ISO 9001, what they are, why they are important ...

This 101 is looking into Section 8.5.4 Preservation of product and services. Why is this important to my business? Well, in a product-based business, you need to make sure that what you are selling to customers is stored, packed and delivered in the right way.

"If it isn't, and the customer receives the goods that are rotten or damaged then you will have an unhappy customer!"

In a service-based business, you may need to preserve documents and data, with products such as food, it must be stored at the right temperature for serving or making sure you have the right clean environment for delivery.

If you don't have the right processes in place then you could lose data (think GDPR), cause food poisoning in your restaurant's customers, or even infect a patient. All these things could mean everything from minor inconvenience through to loss of life ... none of which will make your customers happy.

How do I do this? It completely depends upon what you are selling to your customers. Examples of different product and service businesses are outlined below.

Services:

How can I help you manage this? Being an ISO consultancy, we implement ISO27001 for clients. This helps deal with all the information security and can include GDPR where relevant. For clients who do not need ISO27001, we help ensure the processes are in place as needed and train employees on them for you.

Many of the companies I have worked with have found it useful to have an independent person to work with them to help understand the requirements and how to implement them.
